Forget being a hero. To hell with straddling the line between good and evil. You’re a monster and you wouldn’t have it any other way. Pale Blue is an upcoming 2D sidescroller that takes you to the dark side and makes you like it. You play as Ellen, an abomination created by the evil COCOON organization to destroy the world and rebuild it as they see fit. Are you ready to be on the winning side of history?
Pale Blue allows more exploration than your typical sidescroller. The levels are constructed to give the player more options to freely roam and interact with the environment. The game also sets itself apart from others in its genre by shaking up its beat em’ up gameplay with stealth mechanics. Instead of just bashing through the level with your mind on autopilot, you will have to take time to access the situation to find the best path of attack. You’re not just a rampaging beast, but also the horror that creeps in the shadows. You won’t find any other games out there that play quite like Pale Blue does.
Ellen is really a nice girl once you get to know her. That is if you don’t mind being a snack. Ellen was a normal girl until she was kidnapped by COCOON for experimentation. That’s how she became the monstrosity she is today. She’s not that little girl anymore; she’s a shapeshifting fiend that dines on anything unfortunate enough to be human. Unlike the nonconsenting science projects from other games, she doesn’t escape and vow revenge against her captors. Instead, she chooses to help them create a new world order.
Pale Blue has precisely the kind of visual style that I cannot get enough of. Crisp and clean 2D animations are my one true weakness. It seems like less and less games are neither an 8-bit throwback or an ultra-realistic experience. That’s what makes the art style of this game so refreshing. Hand-drawn 2D graphics are the perfect medium to create the tone that this game strives for. I could watch Ellen rampaging through this amazing black and blue world for hours.
Pale Blue is currently running on Kickstarter and only has about three days left. It’s so close to reaching its goal that I can taste the blood. Spread the word. Be a backer. This game deserves to be made. And if you’re still wondering why you should help this game get funded, I’ll give you a few reasons. Because this game is like a cyberpunk themed massage for your eyeballs. Because we need to give more attention to developers outside of America and Japan. Because if you don’t I can’t guarantee your safety when judgement day comes. At the time of writing this article, Pale Blue has raised $44,204 out of its $48,000 goal. Oh, and don’t forget to vote for it on Steam Greenlight. Let’s make this happen.
UPDATE: Pale Blue has reached its goal and will be funded!
